Answers

Alumbus has no account, no sign-in and no support desk to log in to, and it holds nothing about you. What comes up most is answered here, and both legal documents are on this site in full. Anything about a payment, a refund or a subscription is handled by Apple.

Questions

The ones that come up

How much does Alumbus cost?

It is free for 2 weeks, then £0.99 a month or £9.99 a year, or £14.99 once to own it outright. Those are UK prices including VAT; elsewhere the App Store charges its local equivalent, shown in the app before you confirm. Every plan unlocks the whole app.

How does the free trial work?

Choose the monthly or yearly plan and start the 2 weeks free trial. Nothing is charged until it ends. If you cancel at least 24 hours before the end, you are not charged at all. The trial is available once per Apple Account.

Alumbus does not open until a trial, subscription or lifetime purchase is in place.

How do I cancel?

On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Alumbus. You can also get there from Alumbus itself: Settings › Your plan › Manage plan › Cancel Subscription. Access continues until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com, or from the link in the receipt Apple emails you.

I have a code. How do I use it?

Tap Redeem a Code on the plans screen, or in the app under Settings › Your plan › Manage plan. Codes are entered in Apple’s own screen and checked by Apple. You can also redeem one from your account in the App Store.

I already paid. Why is Alumbus asking me again?

Make sure the iPhone is signed in to the Apple Account you paid with, then tap Restore Purchases on the plans screen. A lifetime purchase and an active subscription both come back on every device signed in to that account.

Does Alumbus connect to my bank?

No, and it has no capability to do so. It never asks for banking credentials, one-time passcodes, card numbers, sort codes or account numbers, and it cannot initiate, authorise or view any payment.

Every figure in the app is one you entered, or one calculated from figures you entered.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. There is no registration, no sign-in and no server. Nothing you enter is sent to us, and nothing about you is held anywhere for an account to be attached to. Purchases go through the Apple Account already on your iPhone.

Where is my data kept?

In a private database inside the app’s own storage area on your device, protected by the operating system’s application sandbox and by device encryption when a device passcode is set. There is no copy anywhere else, other than in a backup you choose to create.

Can you recover my figures if I lose my phone?

No. We never receive them, so we cannot access, disclose, correct, recover or delete them — and we cannot restore them if they are lost. That is the trade for a design with no server in it. Keep a backup you control.

Does the app send anything over the internet?

Apart from Apple’s App Store confirming your plan, one thing, and only if you hold balances in more than one currency: a request for published foreign-exchange reference rates. It carries the currency codes involved and nothing else — no balances, no account names, no identifiers.

You can switch it off under Settings › Exchange rates, after which the app makes no network request at all unless you expressly ask it to refresh rates.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone, on iOS 17 or later. There is no iPad, Mac, Android or web version.

Is Alumbus financial advice?

No. It is an arithmetic tool: it projects forward from figures you supply and shows the result. It does not know your circumstances, it is not regulated, and nothing in it is a recommendation. Verify anything that matters against your bank or lender, and take professional advice before acting on it.

Why does the repayment calculator not change my calendar?

Because it is a calculator. It works out what to pay a credit card this month and shows each instalment plan’s schedule, but it moves nothing.

The one place it reaches the forecast is a balance transfer that pays a card off: there you can tick which plans that transfer settles, and it pays what the card owes less what is sitting inside a plan, plus the instalments that statement bills.

How do I move to a new phone?

Write a backup from Settings and keep it somewhere you control, then restore it on the new device. Backup and export files are not encrypted, so choose a destination whose protection you consider adequate for financial information.

Do you use analytics or advertising?

None. No analytics software, no crash reporting, no advertising SDKs, no advertising or device identifiers, no cookies, no pixels, no fingerprinting and no third-party trackers of any kind. This website does not use them either.
