myLog Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the myLog app for iPhone, iPad and Mac ("myLog", "the app") handles information. myLog is developed and published by Alumbus Labs ("Alumbus Labs", "we", "us", "our").
Summary
- myLog has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
- We do not run any servers. Your logbooks are never sent to us, and we cannot see them.
- Everything you record is stored as ordinary files in a place you choose: your own iCloud Drive, your device, or a folder you pick.
- myLog only uses your camera, photos or location when you ask it to, and only to add something to an entry.
- We do not sell, rent or share your information with anyone.
1.Information we collect
We do not collect, store or have access to any personal information through myLog. The app contains no third-party code for analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking, and it does not create any account or identifier for you.
The only personal information we may receive is information you choose to send us yourself, for example if you contact us for support (see section 11).
2.Information you store in myLog
Anything you enter into myLog stays under your control. This includes logbooks, entries, notes, tags, dates, locations, photos, attachments, profiles and settings. It is saved in the storage location you choose when you set up a vault:
- iCloud: a folder named "myLog" in your own iCloud Drive. Apple stores and syncs these files between devices signed in to your Apple Account, under Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to your iCloud account or its contents.
- On this device: a folder in the app's own storage on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, which is not synced.
- A folder you choose: a folder you select on your device. myLog can only open folders you have explicitly chosen.
These files are plain text (Markdown and JSON) plus any attachments you add, so you can open, copy, move or delete them without the app.
3.Information kept on your device
To work quickly and offline, myLog keeps some information in its private storage on each device:
- your list of profiles and where each vault is stored;
- your display preferences and app lock settings;
- a search index and a cached copy of your entries, so the app opens quickly and works without a connection;
- entries waiting to be saved if your vault folder cannot be reached.
This information never leaves your device, except where your device's own backup (for example iCloud Backup) includes it. It is deleted when you remove the profile in Settings or delete the app.
4.Device permissions
myLog uses the following features only when you ask it to. Where your device requires permission, myLog asks first, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings (iPhone and iPad) or System Settings (Mac).
- Camera (iPhone and iPad): used only when you choose to take a photo for an entry. The photo is saved as an attachment in your vault.
- Photos: used only to attach photos or videos you select. myLog receives only the items you select, not your whole library.
- Location: used only when you tap "Use Current Location" in an entry. Your position is read once and saved in that entry. myLog does not track your location in the background and does not record it at any other time.
- Face ID or Touch ID: used only if you turn on the app lock. Authentication is handled entirely by Apple's operating system. myLog never receives or stores any biometric data.
- Files and folders: myLog only reads and writes its own folders and folders you explicitly choose.
5.Maps and links
If an entry contains a location, myLog shows it on a map provided by Apple's MapKit. To draw the map, your device requests map images for that area from Apple. If you choose "Open in Maps", the location is passed to the Apple Maps app. Apple handles this information under Apple's Privacy Policy.
If you open a web link saved in an entry, it opens in your web browser, and the website's own privacy policy applies.
6.Sharing, exporting and "Add Entries with AI"
myLog only shares information when you choose to. This includes exporting entries as CSV or PDF, creating a backup, sharing an attachment, or copying text. Wherever you send that information, the recipient's or service's own privacy practices apply.
The "Add Entries with AI" feature does not use artificial intelligence and does not send anything anywhere. It only gives you written instructions that you may copy into an AI service of your choice. If you paste those instructions or any of your records into a third-party AI service, that service will receive what you share, and its own terms and privacy policy apply. We recommend you only share information you are comfortable with that service processing.
When you add entry files to myLog, the app copies the files you select into your vault. It does not send them anywhere.
7.Crash reports and App Store statistics
If you have chosen in your device's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide us with crash reports and aggregated usage statistics (such as the number of installs). Apple prepares this information and it does not identify you personally. We use it only to fix problems and improve the app. You can turn this off at any time: on iPhone and iPad in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, and on Mac in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
8.Tracking, advertising and sale of data
myLog does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, does not show advertising, and does not sell or share personal information, including as "selling" or "sharing" are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act and similar laws.
9.Security
Your information is protected by the security of the device and the storage you choose. Files in iCloud Drive are encrypted by Apple in transit and on its servers; with Apple's Advanced Data Protection turned on, they are end-to-end encrypted. You can also turn on myLog's app lock in Settings to require Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode when the app opens. We recommend using a device passcode and keeping your devices up to date.
10.Keeping and deleting your information
Because your information is stored only in places you control, you decide how long it is kept:
- Entries and logbooks: deleting them in myLog moves them to the app's Trash, from which you can restore or permanently delete them.
- A whole vault: delete its folder in the Files app or Finder. For an iCloud vault, you can also use Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage on iPhone or iPad, or System Settings › [your name] › iCloud on Mac.
- Information on your device: removing a profile in Settings, or deleting the app, removes the app's own data from that device. Deleting the app does not delete your vault files in iCloud Drive or in folders you chose.
We hold no copy of your logbooks, so we cannot access, restore or delete them for you.
11.Contacting us for support
If you contact us, for example through the support link on myLog's App Store page, we receive your contact details and whatever you include in your message. We use this only to reply to you and to help with your request, on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing support. We keep support messages only as long as needed to deal with your request, and normally delete them within 12 months. We do not add you to any mailing list or share your message with anyone, except where required by law.
12.Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information. These may include the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of it, to object to or restrict how it is used, and to withdraw consent. These rights are set out, for example, in the UK General Data Protection Regulation, the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the California Consumer Privacy Act.
Because myLog does not send your logbook information to us, you can exercise these rights over it directly in the app and in your own storage. For any information we hold, such as support messages, contact us as described in section 16 and we will respond within the time required by law. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
If you are in the United Kingdom, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). If you are in the European Economic Area, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
13.Children
myLog is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app does not collect personal information, no information about any user, including a child, is sent to us through the app.
14.International use
We do not transfer your logbook information anywhere. If you use iCloud, Apple may store your files in data centres outside your country, as described in Apple's Privacy Policy.
15.Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when the app gains new features or the law changes. The effective date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make a significant change, myLog will show you the updated policy and ask you to agree to it before you continue using the app.
16.Contact
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how myLog handles information, please contact Alumbus Labs using the support link on myLog's App Store page.
